Every day now...will it be the day that a new warrior arrives to the world?

Well, what do you know...more French people live in England today than ever before...another l'invasion des francais..if you will. It seems you like the 'British Magnet' and about 400,000 are here..mostly in South west London. The reason? Well, the French are bloody strange...hehe It seems that you prefer the easier admin routes to most aspects of life here (including starting a biz) and, of course, la belle France is close at hand when you tire of the roast beef...No holiday homes for you here though here... the cost of property is obscene. In London, a one or two bedroom apartment is about 375,000 euro's In the South, outside London almost to the coast, a small three bedroom house is now about 300,000 euro's And if you want a normal sized four bedroom detached house, with not a large garden then you will need from 525,000 euro's A new housing estate is being built near me and a town house with four beds is 735,000 euro's Madness!

I actually earn more money from my home increasing in (notional) value than I do from working...If you are single, the thing to do here is to buy a run down house, renovate it quickly and sell on, each time moving up the property ladder to bigger things with the profit you make each time. A young woman started doing that 10 years ago and is now a multi millionair...you only win though if you manage to sell at a huge profit for cash, otherwise you still have to buy somewhere to live...which is expensive, no? So, if you don't mind living in a building workshop as you do it up, then this is a cool way to make money. If you can afford to buy that first property to start with, yes? Young couples are finding that almost impossible. An executive in London earning 69,000 euro's can not get a mortgage....crazy huh?

A friend just came back from a holiday in Scotland on the Mull of Kintyre, and wanted to buy a home there, so much different from this overcrowded, overpriced part of the world. Yup, I would like that too, or a place in France...dream, dream...

Are you still serious about moving to the country from Paris?

Okay, have a good week, and if you are around Penny, you too, ok? Yre not forgotten, whatever it is you are up to...hehe

Jack

PS My bloody foot is killing me, I have lost my ankle now under a sort of balloon swelling, whatever I do with it, it is hurting...or aching, but not letting me forget it is nagging me...arrrgggh

PPS A bit like being preggie do ya think? Hehe I have a feeling you are going to beat me to my birthday...hehe

Sunny Bananas dear Ones!

I was just passing and re-read your last blog Jack... You know, when you write your blogs or emails, there is really something of "John Irving" style (I'm sure I told you that already...but I read your passage about the earthquake to Martin, and he really laughed hearing it, telling me also about an Irving touch in it !) !!!
But even more realistic and funnier than Irving...hehe...really!
That would be great to read more of this very personal style of yours! You talk of everyday life as nobody! I love it!

okies, I had to tell a word about that before forgetting.

Now I'm off to do my duty (looking for job offers :P)

Here's hoping Candy makes it to October...in this sort of race, it is better not to come first, no? I still think you will deliver the mermaid on the 13th...hehe It is impossible to understand how your life is going to change, and so soon now...you will love it!!!

It has been an eventful week at Castle Jack. I fell of a ladder and caused an earthquake...or did an earthquake make me fall off a ladder...? No, I am not that fat. But it was my first earthshaking moment that didn't include any sex. I was reclining on the sofa at 1am when everything started moving .. a strange scrabbling sound accompanied this movement and my first thought was that the cat had got trapped underneath the sofa and was scrabbling to get free...Except the sofa weighs a ton and no cat, no matter how fat, would move it at all... 'She who must be obeyed', came down and asked what I had done to shake the house...woooo...we both realised what had happened....a very strange feeling to feel the ground move underneath you. It really is not meant to do that and feels very weird when it does. If ya can't trust the ground ya stand on.... The big news next day was, no, not hundreds dead and homeless, oh no, this is England after all. The big news was that some womans pet parrot lost some of his feathes through fright....

I think that is when I fell of the ladder...

My young lil devilish one is off to a party and sleep over to-night....sat her down and tried to 'talk' to her about errrm...things. Lots of 'Oh, Paaaa!' But I know what I was like as a lad, and consequently, now I am suffering the flashbacks.....Since her last bit of trouble, she has sharpened up her attitude, but still has the odd relapse. I think she understands we are simple concerned for her safety though, and this time she says she definatly will not drink as she has learned her lesson from last time. Lets hope so. Are you ready for all this Candy?

I can walk almost normally now... but, shit, it was painful for two days....especially having to stand up most of the day at work, but being a man and consequently a hero, I did not complain... It was my own fault anyhow....hehe

I am running Csi version 4.2, which is not the same as yours Candy, so maybe that is the problem? I have a strange configuration problem with IE that wont allow me to dial out either...so I have to use network connections to access the net...very boring. I have a guru coming to wave a magic wand at the bloody thing soon...I will hand him my biggest hammer I think.

What response to your book? Maybe soon you will be knee deep in cheques for your work huh? I hope so, I need a famously rich person to take me to the white sands of some tropical paradise all expenses payed...hehe Oh, the 'big prize' for that photo contest is a weekend in a cottage somewhere in the UK...and the second prize is two weeks in the same cottage....hehe Apparently, the picture will form part of a calender they are producing.

Have a great weekend you two, and don't push just yet Candy. Penny? Oh, Penny? Nope, still no sign of the errant one. That MOTM must be exhausted by now...should hear from her soon then hmmm?

As I don't know if you can reach your emails, Jack, I let that message in here :)

I can confirm that you we use win 2000 on our computers here... and that my "compuserve classic" works purrfectly with it. I use the version 3.0.4.
So, there's no reason compuserve classic does not work for you :P

Anyway, Martin advices that :

1) you go in the "start" menu, there you should have "windows update", click on it and follow the advice on microsoft website and do all the possible updates they offer.

2) try again to reconnect on cserve

3) If it still does not work, go to "start" menu, then "preferences", then "add or delete programs" (or something like that in english), and delete compuserve (just before, be sure you know all your connection parameters).
Then reinstall compuserve (something you apparently know very well ;-)....

4) If it does not work after the whole reinstallation and updates, ermmm....well...wether you forget the 'classic' version and ask cserve for a new one, or I send you a copy of my cis french installation cd... but then, it's in french :P

Voilà!

Well, I am sitting here, all alone at work at 8pm and I am pissed off. My foot hurts and I am tired. All because of a deadline, I have to complete this order to-night, and I have been working on it for over eight hours now. Everything is backed up due to a paper shortage wich has fooked everyone up. So here I am, and my trusty 'puter with a new trusty OS, win2000, and configuring it to work with my stuff is a nightmare...my printer is still down, waiting a new dll.file, scsi connections are just hell. My old 'classic' compuserve wont work, so it looks like I will have to set up another mail address or use Yahoo, very boring.boring. Or get something else. How are you two, btw? Okies must work...hope you are both well....

Sunny bananas, you groovy ones!

How are you both doing?
I know that (((((Jack))))) (he has turned into a braketer, sista! scary, hey ! hehe) has enjoyed guuuud sausages on Sat' which was a major plan in the weekend :P.. hehe... and how was your weekend M'zelle Penny?
We've missed you on Saturday, catch 22 was really kewl, Kiki was there and Harrisson too (you remember him from casual chat? A fine oldie ;-), a bit.... ermmm... slow but nice one:)

Today when I could jump online for 5 min, it was to defend Roastbeefs'reputation, can you believe that! //oO\\
It was not hard to defend because it was a *fat old and ugly* (that sounds familar, hey ;-) American who was "attacking" :P
He was angry because he had been talking with British ones who started to criticize the American system and the American pressure into international affairs.
Waaa, that had made him rilly angry, he had answered the British ones to go back to UK if they were not happy with America (rolling eyes).
I guess Americans don't like criticism (I know I know, who would like that) and love to repeat that whatever they do, the foreign countries (us, hey ;-) will always complain about them.
(rolling eyes at such a heavy 'self-pity')

Anyway, I actually spent a part of my day "thinking" (wawww!! hehe) about how to organize my websites and now I know what I wanna do!!! I just have to do it now ;-)
I will have a website with different blogs only and another for paintings. It took me a day to come to such a decision... (s)

Oh Jack, I was thinking 'bout you the other day when hearing about the last movie with Robbin Williams "One Hour Photo"... it looks like a kewl movie, Robbin is sait to be very guuuud in it. Have you heard about it?

Penny One, how's things on your side of the planet? Boiling for Spring to start hm? hehe
I hope everybody at Chez Sillan is doing really well! Let us know about the last newzzz, hey :-)))**~~* * *^^ *

Okies, I'm on my way to find a comfortable position on my bed :P
I loooove ewwwwwzzzzzz!!

Important news for Candy…According to a German researcher…(what else) paternal Mother in Laws are a danger to your baby in the first month of life…! Heh! (don’t take this too seriously) It seems a significant number of babies die due (perhaps) to stress hormones building up in the mother due to the overbearing presence of the in-law…and, it seems, almost 10% of babies are not really the fathers…and the in-law may suspect this...hence the tension… (I must admit, an awful lot of kids around our place look suspiciously like the milkman)Paternal mothers in law also know better as they are always right… how do you get on with yours hmmm?

So, I know which topics to get you goils going, hmmm?

I talked in a small group with the ‘American tart’ again yesterday (where are you two these days when I need ya, hmmm?) and oh dear, it seems she is another neurotic ‘Murrican. Seems she is living with her parents and exhibiting the kind of anger normally associated with adolescence. (her parents are stooped and lazy and worthless and materialistic ect ect) and she can’t stand their constant ‘get a life’ comments… I was not involved in this conversation and left without comment due to work here, much as I wanted to get to the bottom of her anger and resentment. But, I admit I was surprised by all of that. Have I been taken in by a stroppy spoilt teen? Yet she tells me she is a pre-school teacher out of work with many big qualifications to her name. And she is obviously very intelligent. A frustrated young adult forced to live with her parents? Hmmm…

I agree with ya Candles on your environmental comments. He was in fact an active green himself and he read an article rubbishing much of his beliefs. In anger, he told his students to research and refute these allegations against the greens. They, and he, found they were unable to do so. Hence he delved deeper and saw the other side of the Green Doomsday. That, in fact, the planet has a huge ability to heal itself, and many so-called disasters are really natural events. He discovered, I think, a sense of proportion. To shave just six years off global warming and for so much money when it could be so much better used, seems very sensible. The point about cats and oil is just that in the overall scale of things, these disasters, are not really that big a thing. Not that we should be complacent about it, but simply to be aware that the end of the world is not about to happen. Cats btw, are a huge disaster in regard to birds.

So the ‘nest is ready huh? What a good word. I like that. I don’t like blood though. I still have a bruise on my head, two in fact, (two kids ya see) from fainting…hehe Let me fight Dragons any-day than watch a birth…. Just let me in when Mom and kid are cleaned, made up, and smiling sweetly in a crisp, white bed..hehe

haaaa, Jack, you nooooooooe very well the kind of topic that can make us goils react!
Well done!!hehe
:-))))

Btw, I love that *Tree hugger* expression!

I am now a tree hugger, not a green ayatollah (another great expression! hehe), but all that is very new to me.

The "ecologist" question has always been a source of joke for most of French people.
Ecologists have always been seen here as dreamers, utopists, extremists, people who are definatly not aware of the reality.

And I really agreed. Till I met dem German buddies, strange creatures who included the respect of the environment in their everyday life (something not French at all :P)
They very simply convinced me it was not that hard to care about what surrounds us.

Now, the views of the Scandinavian vegetarian one are interesting!
But I've always known vegetarians were strange ;-)

I totally agree with his desire to balance with the green ayatollahs.
Those green extremists are the worst that may happen to the environment because they make it so easy to turn their arguments against themselves!

Now about the Scandinavian one... Maybe he's wise, but he would never convince me of anything with the comparisons he makes.
He must have had some bad experience with his ecologist ex-friends, because he sounds a bit frustrated in the way he presents things.

He makes "funny" comparisons, but somehow he compares what can't be compared. It's not because one thing exist that the other is "legal", no? ...

Let's see...
... just because cats eat birds, it just does not seem okay to spill your oil in the countryside.... As much as it's not okay to let serial killers go freely just because (thinking) there are way more people dying of cancer than dying of a murder.

As for Kyoto, fighting the global warming is just a different topic than providing sanitation and clean water to the population! Both are extremly important. And the main problem is that our countries, the rich ones, do not feel that concerned with these probbies and will always find guud reason to not waste money..

So well, the guy has some good sense, it's always great to not let oneself caught by any fever.
But a sure thing is that he does not help to make my "hugged trees" feel better ;-)

And I finally agree with his words : 'we must do the right thing, not something that just feel good'', as long as what he calls the right thing is not spilling oil in Alaska :P
from Candy Froggie
6:11 PM

Now, I have never been a ‘tree hugger’ really, but I can’t stand the huge deforestation and logging for commercial reasons in ancient rain forests and the like. I have suspected that the global doom purported by Greenpeace and the like, is exaggerated, as after all they have an ‘interest’. Just as big industry has a ‘interest’ in downplaying such stuff. The truth is probably in between as always. But, a former ‘eco warrior’ (A Scandinavian vegetarian, Leftie University teacher and a former member of Greenpeace) has now come out with some really ‘common sense’ stuff, backed up by serious research. He has a book out called ‘The Sceptical Enviromentalist’ Worth a look, before the Green ayatollahs drop on him

Some examples: The oil spill in Alaska – the headline screaming that 250,00 seabirds were killed should have been balanced by the fact that as many birds are killed every day by flying into plate glass windows – and that Britain’s cats account for the same number of birds every two days. Ecological collapse has not happened, and the huge clean up has even damaged the recovery of the shore-line. Areas left alone recovered far quicker. More oil is dumped in the sea every day from power-boats around the USA.

The Ozone layer: More cancers are caused by the increased number of people sunbathing than by the marginal reduction in the ozone layer. And what is not reported is the UN report that states that with the phase out of CFC’s, the hole will have mended itself within 50 years.

The biggest claim he makes is about the Kyoto Accord. The accord will cost the developed nations $350 billion a year up to the year 3000. And all to delay the full impact of global warming by six years… For $200 – one year of Kyoto spending – clean water and sanitation could be provided for the entire population of the Earth. As he says “We must do the right thing, not something that just feel good”

There goes a brave man.

Candles, I hope the butcher was kind to you…it must be kinda bad if ya have to go at this late stage…poor you..and..Penny, Matt has tooth probies too? Sheesh…I am sorry, but I draw the line at a sympathetic tooth ache..hehe (patting my big, round belly)

I jumped on-line this afternoon but no one was here, and I was about log off when this ‘American Tart’ paged me. Well, what is a guy to do Actually, she turned out to be a smart and fast talking goil, a pre-school teacher who is out of work and a bit depressed. But she had a sharp sense of humour and a great ‘passion’ about things. Must be young huh? She raged at ‘romantic love’ and ‘love’ in general, fiercly anti- ‘mush’ Anti-feminism and, surprisingly, women… she was sitting at the ‘puter at 5.30am unable to sleep in Las Vegas. We had a good, friendly, combative chat…she would be good in ‘catch 22’ I think! A strange handle for someone with such fierce views on things… she was intriguing. It is rare to find people who ‘engage’ in such a forthright way.

Anyway, now that I have put my face up here so’s yre not on ya own Candy, I will shoot off…(hmmmm dat sounds kinda rude…)

It was so kewl to catch you online yesterday!!!! Waaaaaaaaaa ***~~* * *^^* *
I hope it will happen more often, we make such a team! RoaaaaaaaaarrRRRRrrrrr :-)))

Today I've been talking with a "girl" online about lingerie, she said she worked for Victorias Secret (an american thingie, right?)... Anyway, she asked so much about my point of view and "experience" (lol) regarding garters, that it finally turned to be obvious that this girl was a guy!!! But it took me 20 min to realize!!!!!
I hate that! I really felt like sharing girls'views!
Damn, I'm getting old and slow!

Changing topic, Jack, I know it's a bit late but where are your Monday DHN.... Boooo ooooooooooooo (and major snifffffff)
....It's just that a week without dem is not like a purrfect week! :))

Huggggles my favorite Ones!

I hadn't noticed the days were getting shorter on this "corner" of the planet!
Only 8.00 pm and it's already dark enough for me to put the light on!

Have we all miss each other again online on Sat'? Hehe (boooo actually), really we're taking bad habits!

I've been in the bloooooe zone for about 3 hours (but probably too late) and spent that time in catch 22. It had been long since a room hadn't been that entertaining! (far less than when you're both around though!!!)

We were only 6, 7 peeps, from 12 years old to 63! That's what I call diversity!
All were Americans (except a British "Andy" and I), and they were amazingly pleasant (they did not talk about Irak or the 11th Sept., etc)
hehe

We were careful with the kid (not to chock him ;-) and we all took time enough to talk with him about his bike, spider, hamster (named buttons) and rabit ;-)
When he finally left (which was a kind of relief, it's not fun to be careful with what you type), people naturally started to talk of themselves in a most simple way and with much humour, which was really refreshing!
Among other things, We had a good laugh about the concept of beeing half-single (a position claimed by one of dem); that was kewl, very "catch 22" spirit :-)))

Otherwise, my weekend went pretty well. I received a few calls from friends just back from holidays and from relatives. It sounded as if they had synchronized ideas, most of them worried for me ("it must be so long for you to wait and stay on your bed") and asked to come and visit me in the next days "to entertain me" :-))))

Huuuuuuu, when you can't move, you're not much in the mood to spend hours with people around.
Finally I only accepted the visit of my mom and grand-mother (who wants to see me as a real fattie before it's too late :P) and a couple of friend (expecting a baby for the end of the month).
I feel bad (again) for the others, but well, it's better I stay in a calm atmosphere :)

And actually so far, I haven't got really bored by the situation.
Maybe I've got used to be lazy, that's scary!!! That will be a shock when the burDerfly will be around asking for milk every 2 hours!
**~~^^ * * * *

Sometimes I wonder if I don't tell you both too much about my pregnancy, it must be so boring at the end to listen at all that! But I guess my *world* turns around it more than usual since I've stopped moving.

Ohhhh, changing topic (hurrrrrrra !), I've heard the Rolling Stones will be in Paris next summer!
(an info from "Papi blues", the way Eva calls my dad ;-)
Yeeeeepeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
It will be my third concert with them and the first one for Martin (who keeps calling dem the oooooold dudes -shrugging-)!
(happy sigh!)

On that note, I'm off to take my drugs cause da belly is getting as hard as ...a stone!:P
(and that's an effect provoked by excitment, not fair!)

Have a guuuuud and not too stressed Monday!
I love ewwwwws !!!
